Yes, the Jimmy and Gillian relationship is just a basic example of a common cycle of sexual abuse. Once Jimmy is old enough he realizes that it isn’t supposed to be this way, but that’s how he was brought up and he’s permanently fucked up and confused. Gillian was raised by abuse and knows nothing else, Jimmy is the only man she feels she can trust.

anyway, i loved all the flashbacks and how it brought together why Jimmy is terribly crippled by the decisions of his mother, the relationship with Angela, why he went to war, etc.

I get that she was a victim. I get that. What happened to Gillian was horrifying and while it, to an extent, explains why she ~is the way she is~ it doesn’t justify what she has done and is still doing.

I’ve seen a disturbing number of people who have posted pics of the two of them with comments like “otp” or “gillian is fierce” etc etc etc or who have said that Jimmy “wanted” what happened between them because he beat up his professor yadda yadda. Yeah, a lot of people dislike Gillian but honestly most of the hate I’ve seen for her after this last episode has more to do with her calling Richard a “simpleton” than the fact that she sexually abused her child.
